Utah Health Insurance Companies
There are currently five main Utah individual health insurance providers. Each provider has its own little niche in the Utah health insurance marketplace. And each carrier caters differently to a individuals specific needs and health conditions. For example one carrier may accept an individual with high blood pressure, while another carrier will deny coverage. Select Health- Select Health is a PPO and HMO network provider that is also known by the name of their parent company Intermountain Healthcare or IHC. Select Health offer a numbers of major medical plans including: Utah maternity insurance, HSA plans, Utah dental plans and traditional Utah health insurance plans. Select Health is also the company that administers the state run Health Insurance Pool (HIP). Select Health also is one of the few carriers in the state of Utah to offer “short term medical plans.” A short term medical plan is great for someone who is in between jobs, or college student.
Assurant- Assurant health of Utah is also known by their parent company name of Time Insurance Company. Assurant is a national PPO network provider that operates one of the largest networks of health care providers in the world. They offer numerous types of major medical plans including traditional, HSA and short term plans.
HumanaOne- Humana is a PPO network provider that offers a large network of health care providers across the state. Humana of Utah offers a number of cost effective plans that include all types of major medical plans, including traditional plans and high deductible HSA type plans.
Humana is relatively new to the Utah health insurance market and they have some very cost effective plans for Utah resident who are done having children. Humana does not currently offer maternity coverage with their plans
Humana also has a good national presence, so if you travel out of state, they have in-network doctors and care facilities throughout the United States.
Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah- Regence is a PPO network provider that also offers what is known as a traditional network. A traditional network is like plans some people may remember before network providers came into existence and that allows you to see any doctor or go to any facility of your choosing. So, not only do they offer you the ability to have a cost saving PPO network plan, they give you the choice to have a slightly more expensive plan that gives you the freedom to choose.
Altius Health Plans- Altius is also known by their parent company name of Coventry Health Care. Altius is a PPO network provider that offers many different types of plans that can be fit to suit your needs in either a traditional plan or a tax saving HSA plan.
